Pots of Flowers
The inspiration for Pots of Flowers came from the same location as Blue Shutters . It is based in the old town of Mojacar in Southern Spain. A common practice in the town is for the residents to have many pots of flowers on the steps and walls. This brings floral colour to the charming narrow, winding streets of the village.
Painting this presented an opportunity to bring together different colours and flowers. I was also able to display a range of locally made pots to add variety. I chose the rose as the centrepiece because it and the vine gave the oil painting some height. The filtered sunlight gave added interest to the canvas background. It also allowed the foreground pots and colourful flowers to sit well in the painting.
This oil painting was completed as a companion to Blue Shutters which I have in my own collection. Pots of Flowers is on consignment in Japan.
Artists have different approaches and styles. I use a full range of oil colours when I’m painting. Some artists prefer a limited palette. It is certainly a matter of choice. I have always painted with a large palette as I consider it allows me to paint with a freshness and depth that I favour.
A big thank you for all the very kind comments that have written on the social media sites such as Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram et al. Please keep them coming. As always, keep checking the website as I will be displaying more bird and wildlife oils in forthcoming posts. I will also have two new river landscape canvasses up in the Landscape Gallery in the very near future.
Thank you again for visiting my website and for the many supportive comments.
I hope to see you again soon
Kind regards
David
