This a canvas I have wanted to paint for some time because I liked the contrast between the green of the water lilies and brown of the Kenyan earth.
The reference material was shot in Nairobi National Park which also contrasts the busy international air port one side of the Nairobi/Mombasa road and the beautiful wilderness of the park the other.
I don’t use black on my palette but prefer to mix my own dark colours so the zebra stripes were painted using three coats of olive green and a mixture of Van Dyke Brown and French Ultramarine.
The canvas size is 30 x 20 inches and seemed to take ages. However, I’m pleased with it and I’m looking forward to painting a bull elephant from Tsavo on a 30 x 20 canvas.
I hope you enjoy the painting and I look forward to hearing your comments.
Best wishes
David
