Christmas this year was spent in the UK with some of the family. My oldest granddaughter wants to be an artist when she ‘grows up’ and already shows talent. But she’s only 5 right now so we may have to wait a while until her true skills materialise.
The early new year was spent focused at the easel. Then, in late January, we had a trip to South Africa. Here, I was able to amass some great reference material, walking beautiful rivers and trekking through some amazing indigenous forests. The light in South Africa is similar to Spain – giving sharp, clear impressions. Great for capturing light on water, shadows on paths and colours on hillsides.
After the last series of successful exhibitions in Japan I am full of ideas for this Spring/Summer exhibitions. Of course, each painting is a new challenge – especially when you are trying to bring new ideas and some different techniques to the scene. With fresh material from my recent travels I feel inspired and motivated to produce some good work.
Kind regards
David
