Barn Owl Oil Painting – A Celebration of Nature displaying the Barn Owl (Tyto Alba).
For animal and bird lovers owls have a fascination. As an artist who works in oil paints they also present a unique opportunity to display strong tonal values and fine detail. I can also take the opportunity to add colour and impasto to areas like the branch that the barn owl is perched on.
As a wildlife artist I have spent many hours observing and recording wildlife around the world. One evening I will always remember was hiding in a hedgerow in England watching a female barn owl teaching its young how to hunt. Later, I looked up to see a tawny owl on a telegraph pole that had been watching me!
For me as an artist I like my oil paintings, both landscape and wildlife, to be a `Celebration of Nature’, something I strive for on every canvas. This isn’t the first barn owl oil on canvas I have painted and I hope it will not be the last. Happily, it is a wildlife portrait I am very pleased with.
Good News Barn Owls are wide spread and in the United Kingdom the population is thankfully stable. Feeding on small mammals they are well adapted as nocturnal feeders with their excellent hearing and ability to see in low light. A great example of evolution in nature and the natural world.
You may see a Barn Owl just before dusk…..flying silently at the edge of a copse or woodland.
I will be displaying more wildlife and nature paintings in forthcoming posts, including the tawny owl and a companion barn owl oil painting.
Thank you for visiting my website and for reading this post.
I hope to see you again soon
Kind regards
David
